It was originally engineered specifically to withstand the extremely corrosive nature of hot sulfuric acid. Its elevated nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and copper content provides exceptional resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chemical environments containing chlorides, phosphoric acids, and nitric acids.
